After Yakima and the girl, whose name he saw no point in learning, finished making love amid the fresh breeze and the thunder of the storm—a satisfying, tension-relieving coupling despite the circumstances—they languished for a while in the bed, entangled in each other’s limbs.

When, stroking her hair, he asked her about the naked woman he’d seen earlier, she climbed out of bed quickly, frowning angrily. She threw her dress on over her head, glanced at him once, miffed, and left.

Her sandals clapped sharply in the outside hall until they were drowned by the storm’s last grumblings.

“Well, I’ll be damned. A jealous puta.”

Yakima was too tired and sated to dwell on the naked beauty. The bed rose up to engulf him.
